Katlehong police on 21st, 22nd, and 23rd January arrested 18 suspects for various offences. Suspects were arrested during the weekend operations that included stop and search, conducted by the police station’s members, detectives, and EMPD members.
Amongst those who were arrested for crimes such as rape is a father who has raped her daughter since last March 2021 on different occasions and repeated it this year. The 18-year old decided to report her father and opened a rape case against him.
It is alleged that the suspect (father) has also forcefully ordered the child to use contraceptives to prevent pregnancy.
On Friday the Katlehong Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) unity acted swiftly and arrested the suspect and detained him. The police might add other charges to the suspect as it is alleged that he tied the victim with a chain and padlock on her left leg to prevent her from walking.
The victim is now kept in a safe place for further observations, assessments, and counselling. Other suspects arrested include crimes ranging from assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, an assault which commonly includes domestic violence, possession of a suspected motor vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm, theft, possession of the stolen property, and lastly for drinking and driving.
Station Commander of the Katlehong SAPS, Brigadier Albertina Vesi has condemned this gruesome act done by the father to her daughter, she said that this is not acceptable within our societies.
All the arrested suspects appeared at Palm Ridge magistrate court yesterday, Monday 24 January 2022, according to their different charges. The operation continues.
