On the 20th of August 2020, the LiftUp Community Development organisation hosted a campaign against Gender Based Violence in Phumula Gardens Ext 21.The Women’s month Gender Based Violence campaign was attended by a social worker (Matome Makoka) who issued out pamphlets on this sensitive plight that continues to haunt our communities. “We live in the world which is not safe anymore and the statistics of gender based violence has increased due to the Covid-19 pandemic (job losses, other business sectors closing down, school closing, poverty increases) the information shared on this day is useful for the communities and it will help to find a way to beat this plague which is affecting our communities, we strongly condemn Gender Based Violence,” Makoka disclosed.“ Fifty (50) Identified woman beneficiaries received gift packs: pads, face cloth, bath soap and soft drinks in ward 41 Phumula Gardens today,” said Thabo Radebe Head of Administration at LiftUp Community Development. “Liftup Community Development and Projects is registered under CIPC as a non-profit company that was established in 2018 to serve the community of Ward 41 and surrounding areas in Ekurhuleni.
We are focused on creating development programs which are broad based and are meant to uplift the lives of our youth, unemployed and the community as a whole, in terms of the environment in which they live in, educational and social needs,” Thabo Radebe explained. “Thank you to coca cola for sponsoring us with soft drinks and we as the LiftUp community development organisation we pride ourselves in our effort of raising funds that enabled us to buy gift packs, paints, banners and marking pens for the attendees to pledge their support against GBV ,” Radebe concluded.
