A guardian (Xoliswa Nkabe) of a handicapped 12 year-old girl (Keneilwe Nkabe) divulged that she’s pleased with the effort of the Zalisidinga African Traditional Council (ZATC) for donating a wheelchair to her in Eden Park, on the 31st of October 2020.
The ZATC made an effort to contribute a wheelchair after noticing the dire condition of the child when they previously came to donate food parcels to the family.
Initially the guardian (Xoliswa Nkabe) of the disabled child in a manner of appreciation said: “I’m happy to receive the gift today, it will surely enable me to actively participate in the events I couldn’t be involved in before like going to church, family gatherings, shopping and community gatherings because now I can easily take her along with me; it’s a comfortable wheelchair for her to move around, she won’t be placed on the bed all the time like before, now she will be able to dine with us and watch TV, I wish she can also get a chance to go to school and do other normal activities that other children her age are doing, I would like to thank all the people who noticed my problem, and those who listened and acted upon it,” Xoliswa Nkabe revealed in jubilation.
Fezeka Mqolombeni a member of Zalisidinga African Traditional Council (ZATC) and a supervisor of ‘Care Givers’ reveals how the family was discovered, stating that: “As a ‘Care Givers’ organisation we do door to door programmes in various communities, trying to ensure that patients are strictly taking their prescribed medications, so that’s how we discovered the disabled child thereafter we wrote a report based on our discovery after seeing the situation of the family and the child, instantly the ZATC took it upon its shoulders to assist the family, they firstly brought food hampers and today they are extending their helping hand by donating a wheelchair,” she revealed.
Godfrey Fanie the Principal Chief and Prime Minister of ZATC shared his side of the story saying: “We are initiating this noble act because as a chief, I believe a chief must work for the people and my main objective as a chief is to take care of my nation and to help those who are sick; we previously came here as agents on the ground level who evaluate the needs of our community members, so today we are acting upon our mandate which is to help out our people; if anyone wants to assist us in any form of donating they can come at our offices in 231 Chitembo Street, portion 48, Ext 28 Vosloorus,” Chief Fanie expressed.
