ActionSA Applauds SIU’s Investigation into Rooiwal Tender Allegations

ActionSA, which takes pride in fighting for South Africans’ human rights, gladly welcomed the SIU investigation. The SIU was established in 1997 and appears to be fighting for ongoing investigations into politicians who appear to be lacking in their jobs. ActionSA pushed for the investigation of the alleged ANC-affiliated businessman Edwin Sodi on the grounds that he lacked experience and qualifications for the 290 million tender to renovate Phase 1 of the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Works.

According to a study released by the Public Protector, residents in Hammanskraal and neighbouring areas receive their reticulation supply of potable water from the Temba Water Treatment Works for household use. The water is purified and treated at this facility to meet the necessary standards for drinking water. However, residents have been exposed to untreated water, highlighting a stark contrast to the intended purification process.

The Public Protector received a complaint regarding this issue, and during the investigation, a report was filed. A summary of the public hearings addressing the persistent water crisis in the region was outlined in the report, a product of the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the Hammanskraal Water Crisis. These hearings took place at Ebenezer Bible Church in Temba from April 16–18, 2021, as stated in the report provided by the Public Protector. The hearings were open to the public, allowing anyone interested to attend. Notably, the City of Tshwane declined the invitation to participate in the Commission’s hearing without providing an explanation.
