Between Friday 09 and Sunday 11 February 2024, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct Officers, along with the Environmental Health Department, Benoni Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), and members of the community policing forum (CPF), responded to a complaint concerning various exotic animals in the Benoni area.
EMPD officers received a complaint about animal noises disturbing public peace on Poplar Road. They collaborated with other stakeholders to address the issue. Upon reaching the mentioned address, law enforcers found several exotic animals including black-eared marmosets, wolves, monkeys, and fennec foxes. The SPCA issued a notice to the owner regarding the underweight wolves and their inadequate living conditions. Additionally, the Environmental Health Department issued a notification letter requesting a reduction in the nuisance caused by the animals.
Furthermore, at Harry Gwala, Putfontein, and Elim Roads, officers conducted law enforcement operations and issued written notices to appear in court to drivers who violated the National Road Traffic Act.
The EMPD encourages members of the City of Ekurhuleni community to adhere to proper procedures when keeping animals in residential areas, in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders.
