Yesterday(19 Aug) at 09:30 in Tembisa area (Winnie Mandela), the EMPD North Task Team arrested four (4) male suspects (including a scrapyard owner) and stolen electrical copper cables worth R68k, was recovered.At 09:00, Metro Police Officers on crime prevention operation in Tembisa area, were flagged by PRASA Security personnel, patrolling the railway track next to Tembisa railway station. Three (3) alleged electrical cable thieves between the ages of 20 and 25, were spotted in the nearby veldt by Security Members, extracting a copper cable, from the trench. EMPD Squad jumped into action and the trio, caught with hands in the cookie jar, were apprehended. A follow up was made concerning the sale, of the stolen items and a well-known scrapyard in Winnie Mandela section, was visited where the male owner in his 40s, who made an attempt to evade an arrest by offering Officers R10 000 cash, was handcuffed after he also failed to account, for more copper cable found in his premises. The quartet charged with possession of stolen items, damage to property and bribery, are booked at the Tembisa police station.The detainees, are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon
