The residents of east rand expressed how happy they are regarding the Social Relief Grant that will soon take place until March 2022. After the chaos South Africa has been in recently, some believe this grant will be helpful.
With the rate of unemployment at its peak, some youth members think that the R350 grants that the government is willing to assist with will be of good help since the unemployment rate is just over 60%. Putting into consideration that South Africa underwent destruction lately and the economy dropping its percentage than the first quarter of 2020, it is questionable as to how the economy will recover. Dion Venter, a 28-year-old from Springs says that she has been unemployed for 4 years and is at ease with the grant she will be receiving. “I don’t even have kids so unlike other people, I don’t receive anything from the government to help me out. I recently started a business because I can’t be relying on my mother for money at my big age. At least these R350’s will make ends meet somewhere, somehow. R350 isn’t much these days, especially considering how expensive things like food and toiletries are, it isn’t much but it will do and help me in my business too,” expressed the young woman.
Mpho Maseko, a 31-year-old taxi driver from Kwa-Thema says he does support the government in regards to the Social Relief Grant as most young people do not work and are unemployed. “This is a good idea as it will help most mothers who are unemployed and single parents. We see them a lot here in townships. It’s going to help people a lot. However, I’ve seen how South Africans, especially some men spend money on alcohol. I wish the government had a system of seeing who really needs the money and give those people that money. To the rest of the people who use the money on alcohol and other useless things, I wish the government could instead give them food parcels because they’re not responsible and simply can’t handle money,” concluded Maseko.
