The City of Ekurhuleni recovered about R3 million from three Germiston-based companies that owe the City millions of Rands in unpaid services.
Yesterday, the City conducted an electricity cut-off blitz in Germiston the hunt down companies that owe the municipality millions in outstanding monies for services.
Nine businesses, owing the City more than R21 million, were targeted by a multi-departmental task team on a mission to cut off the supply of electricity and water in an effort to recover the money.
Electricity and water supply to some of the businesses were cut off after they ignored numerous requests to pay the outstanding debt.
However, businesses that were able to pay half of their debt and also made arrangements with the City for the balance were reconnected.
Two of the disconnected businesses were also fined R24 377.04 for illegally connecting electricity.
The disconnected businesses will be closely monitored until they settle their debt in full.
The blitz will continue across Ekurhuleni until the businesses are in a quest to recover outstanding monies.
