Between the 8th and 10th of November 2023, from 7:00 to 13:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Social Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) Officers went to schools in Duduza, Tsakane, and Nigel. They did school searches and gave talks about school safety and bullying.
In Duduza, at Roseview Primary School, the officers focused on training scholars for patrol duty and making sure scholar transport is safe. The kids were happy to learn from the officers. In Tsakane, at Funukukhanya Primary School, the SCPU Officers, along with other law enforcement groups, talked to students about bullying and not using drugs. They explained the dangers of getting involved with such things. In Nigel, together with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Community Policing Forum (CPF), they searched Nigel Primary School. They found sharp scissors, a cellphone, a vice grip spanner, syrup medication, snuff, and a sling. These items were taken away.
The EMPD is going to keep using all the help they can to stop dangerous things from getting into schools in the City of Ekurhuleni.
