Four Arrested in Putfontein: R28K Worth of Narcotics Seized

On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, between 06:00 and 07:00, officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Eastern Region Task Team apprehended four men aged between 25 and 40 in the Putfontein area. They were caught in possession of illegal drugs with a total estimated value of R28,000.

The EMPD Task Team had received information from a reliable source regarding the whereabouts of individuals suspected of selling illegal narcotics to the local community. Acting swiftly, officers launched a special operation to dismantle these drug syndicates. Tactically, they approached the locations identified by community members.

At Mayfield Extension 8, a 27-year-old male suspect was apprehended with thirty-one (31) packets of crystal meth worth an estimated R6,200. In Zenzela Section, a 25-year-old male suspect was found with fourteen (14) ziplock packets of crystal meth, twenty-five (25) small ziplock packets of crack cocaine, and 24 half mandrax tablets, totaling an estimated value of R7,300. In addition, at Zenzela Section Extension 1, a 40-year-old male suspect was caught with forty-six (46) packets of crystal meth and four (4) half mandrax tablets, valued at around R10,100. Lastly, on Lingwani Street in Mayfield Extension 1, officers intercepted a 26-year-old male suspect with ninety-nine (99) brown packets of nyaope, estimated at R4,900.

All four suspects were placed under arrest and transported to the Putfontein police station. They have been charged with possession and potential trafficking of illicit substances and are scheduled to appear in the Benoni Magistrate Court in the near future.
