The City of Ekurhuleni, through the Ekurhuleni Entrepreneurship Academy, is offering free online courses to local entrepreneurs, thanks to a partnership that exist with the Start-up Tribe.

The City of Ekurhuleni is implementing a re-engineered entrepreneurship and enterprise development programme to stimulate the regional economy and to unlock economic opportunities for the community of Ekurhuleni through a programmatic and systematic skills development model, which is founded in section 152 (1) (c) of the Constitution of South Africa, Act 108 of 1996 which states that; “The objects of local government are to promote social and economic development”;
In line with the City of Ekurhuleni’s objectives of accelerated and shared economic growth through skills development, enterprise development, township economic development and fostering local entrepreneurship as well as job creation through the provision of a conducive environment for SMMEs.
According to the National Treasury, township economic development is a national priority to redress the spatial apartheid legacy of cities and towns and to drive inclusive economic development and job creation.
The City of Ekurhuleni has entered a collaborative partnership with The Start-up Tribe to collaborate on matters of Enterprise Development competency development in the municipal area to ensure that small, medium and micro enterprises and cooperative enterprises are skilled, empowered and supported.
The Ekurhuleni Entrepreneurship Academy is an initiative to bring know-how to thousands of people to empower them with tools and skills to achieve what they want to achieve in business.
As at Feb 2024, The Start-up Tribe is active in 27 countries supporting more than 421 cities and municipalities globally to tackle unemployment and grow local businesses to contribute to economic growth.
The courses are designed to help you in a practical, hands-on way to start and grow your business, whether you are a student, startup, small business, or a professional (lawyer, doctor, accountant, engineer, artisan, farmer, etc).
