Gauteng Human Settlements (GDHS) is to transfer 194 government-owned flats to qualifying occupants to improve the quality of living for tenants and the ability to provide their families security.
Residents in the following communities have been requested to exercise patience with the process that is, Eldorado Park and Lenasia living respectively in Double Alphabet flats, Diamond Street flats, Silver Street Flats, Goud Street Flats, Hillbrow Flats, Dallas Flats, Westgate Flats, Kersiedorp row houses, Harlem flats and South Fork flats.
The Department is currently in the process of issuing title deeds for flats that were transferred. The process involves beneficiary education on ownership, rights, and responsibilities.
A total of 122 qualifying families in Dallas, Westgate, Harlem flats and an additional of 72 in Lenasia stand to qualify from this opportunity while the remaining will be governments database due to qualifying or approved beneficiaries have been allocated.
There will be remedial construction work at flats to be transferred. The Department also acknowledges difficulties in allocating work to contractors due to the current rates payable.
The process of revising rates is underway. The Department would also like to assure the affected families that once the rates for the contractors have been finalised, maintenance will resume, and properties where sectional schemes have been registered will then be transferred to the qualifying occupants.
