Gauteng Traffic Police arrest two drivers for violation of road traffic rules and regulations on the N12 freeway
The Gauteng Traffic Police arrested two male drivers aged fifty-eight (58) and forty-five (45) for violation of road traffic rules and regulations following an operation conducted along the N12 freeway in the Western corridor on the 05th of July 2022. The drivers were found driving a black Ford Ranger and a blue GWM P series respectively and were immediately detained at Bekkersdal police station.
The drivers were found excessively speeding at an average of 130 – 134 kilometers per hour on a prescribed speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour. Both drivers are expected to appear at Bekkersdal Magistrates Court today to face charges relating to reckless and negligent driving with an alternative charge of exceeding the prescribed speed limit.
“It is unfortunate that the drivers continue to put the lives of Gauteng road users at risk through reckless and negligent driving behaviour. We urge drivers to always comply with the rules and regulations of the road in order to save lives,” said Sello Maremane, Gauteng Traffic Police Spokesperson.
Many road fatalities that the province continues to record is due to unroadworthy vehicles, unsafe overtaking, over speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and general disregard of the rules of the road or road traffic sign amongst others.
The Gauteng Traffic Police will intensity operations in order to deal decisively with transgressors on Gauteng major routes. “The Gauteng Traffic Police will lead a series of road safety activations and operations across the province in order to save lives and will ensure that all drivers who conduct themselves with impunity are detained” added Sello Maremane.
