On the 5th of December 2023, Kathorus Golf Club in partnership with Chris Hani Mall launched golf clinics, coaching and training for Mthimkhulu primary school learners at their premises.
The Kathorus Golf Club was formed in 2018 and it has more than 30 registered members from Katlehong, Thokoza, and Vosloorus hence it is called Kathorus Golf Club.
Themba Nkosi, the general secretary of the Club, mentioned during the launch that the programme will start with 16 learners who were chosen from Mthimkhulu primary school with the aim of not only exposing them to the game of golf but also exposing them to other things in the golfing sector. “ We cannot let the old golfers take these skills to the graves but let’s transfer these skills to our young people” Nkosi continued.
The golf club has partnered with golf veterans who are going to provide knowledge to the learners, Chris Hani Mall which provided brand new golf bags, Mthimkhulu Primary School which provided learners who are going to be part of the programme, and Germiston County Club which provided other golf equipment that will be needed in the programme.
Siphiwe Dlamini, who is one of the learners that were chosen at Mthimkhulu primary school said he is happy that he got the opportunity to play in this sport, and Lwandle Daniel Mthethwa, who is also one the chosen learners said “For me, it is just an experience that I have learned and I never got an opportunity to showcase my skills but I got it from Kathorus Golf Club “.
Talking to the chairperson of the golf club, Douglas Jonas, he said that as the golfers they are prepared to teach the children golf however the parents must help them wherever they need their help for the programme to be a success.
