Last Legend Standing Josta Dladla gives back to his former high school

MTN and the MTN8 Last Legend Standing, Josta Dladla, have donated winter school hampers that include shoes, socks, jerseys, and shirts as well as football, netball kits and equipment worth R180 000 to his former high school, St Ansgar’s Combined School in Lanseria.

Now in its second year, the MTN8 Last Legend Standing competition continues to complement the charitable work done through the MTN8 Goals for Charity initiative and provides aid to more communities where the MTN8 Legends are known and cherished. As the 2022 MTN8 Last Legend Standing, Josta Dladla decided to visit his former high school and provide them with the necessary assistance they needed.

At the start of the tournament, the eight MTN8 Legends were pitted against each other, and they randomly selected a team from the eight participating in the tournament. Josta’s selected team, Orlando Pirates, was crowned the MTN8 champions therefore the R180 000 and the MTN8 Last Legend Standing title goes to him.

MTN8 Legend Josta Dladla commented: “It has been a great joy for me to return to the school that shaped my future and be able to give back and show my appreciation. The communities surrounding the school are impoverished and a lot of learners lack the basic school needs, which is the reason why I saw fit to assist in this way. I am immensely grateful to MTN for affording us this opportunity as legends to give back to our communities”.

“With each season of the MTN8 tournament, we look for ways to do more that can benefit everyone from the football fans, MTN customers, and the community. The MTN8 Last Legend Standing initiative has proven to be an essential part of providing aid and reaching as many communities that are struggling with basic needs as possible. We hope that Josta’s contribution to the school will assist the learners to continue to work hard towards reaching their passions, goals, and dreams”, said Nomsa Chabeli, GM: Brand and Marketing at MTN SA.

The seven Legends that were knocked out during the tournament used their R20 000 to donate to charities and organisations close to their hearts. They donated school shoes and sporting equipment for their former schools while others used the funds to host football tournaments for school children in their communities.

MTN’s primary objective is always to bring people closer to their passion through its various sponsorship properties. This is demonstrated annually through the MTN8 tournament in how participating teams, fans, customers, and communities are rewarded through this property.
