Mayoral service delivery programme sweeps through Benoni

Masisebenzeni – The People’s Government@Work was once again rolled out successfully in various parts of Benoni on Friday, 25 August. The Executive Mayor Cllr Sivuyile Ngodwana and Members of the Mayoral Committee visited Actonville Hostel in Wattville. This 70-year-old hostel which has been turned into family dwellings is at an advanced state of dilapidation.

The Mayor, Cllr Sivuyile Ngodwana, vowed to ensure the long-promised demolishment and refurbishment order of the facility will be implemented and the residents will finally be moved to more habitable housing. Some hostel residents appealed that the Mayor keep his word.

Another area of much interest visited by the Masisebenzeni programme was the Northmead Water Tower. The water tower was initially visited by Mayor Ngodwana shortly after his State of the City Address in April.

The construction of the water tower is now nearing the testing phase, and backup generators have been acquired to be used during loadshedding. “It is very encouraging to see that this site is on schedule in terms of its deliverables. The progress they had promised me a few months ago when I was here, seems to be holding up,” Executive Mayor Ngodwana said.

This infrastructure is set to provide great relief to the Vlakfontein Tower which is currently under immense pressure supplying water to many communities.

The People’s Government@Work continues, with Vosloorus set as the next focus point.
