Mpilisweni class of 2023 dominates ekurhuleni

Mpilisweni Secondary School Matric Class of 2023 has come with an astonishing 99.2%. This makes the school the number one and best-performing in the Ekurhuleni South district.

The school has improved from its second position of 97.73% from last year, succeeding Katlehong Technical and Lethukuthula with 96.6% and 93.9%.

“We are excited and very much relieved that our learners have made it, and our hard work has paid off,” the school Principal, Mr Khaya Sinqaba expresses his joy over the results. “Of course, there were challenges, and we still have those challenges but despite all that, our learners have made it as we are the top school in the entire district,” he added.

Out of the 240 learners who sat for the exam, the school secured 158 bachelor’s passes. Additionally, mark your calendars: on February 13, 2023, the school will officially transition into a school of specialization.

One of the Class of 2023 matriculants, Lehana Mjambana, aged 18, achieved admission to a bachelor’s pass, with four distinctions in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, English, and Life Orientation. She admits that the workload was overwhelming, leaving her with insufficient time to manage it effectively. The bright student mentioned that load shedding posed another challenge as she couldn’t study on time. “I had to wait until midnight to study, resulting in me being tired the next day at school and not focusing,” she discussed the challenges she faced. Nevertheless, she conquered these obstacles and is now enrolled to pursue a BSc in Actuarial Sciences at Wits University.

Extra classes are held weekly and on weekends, according to the school’s principal. These, along with parental engagement and the 8-day camp where students stayed on campus before the final exams, significantly contributed to the remarkable results.

The principal affirms that the school will continue to apply these strategies this year and urges students to aim for a minimum of 50% proficiency in all subjects, as it has proven beneficial for them.
