Newly elected Ekurhuleni Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana led a swearing-in ceremony to officially welcome his new mayoral committee on Thursday, 06 April 2023 at the Civic Center, Germiston.
This comes after the removal of former Ekurhuleni mayor, Tania Campbell, and the DA-led administration through the vote of no confidence.
Ngodwana announced the committee comprising 10 councillors on Wednesday, consisting of five ANC Cllr’s and five EFF Cllr’s.
However, only five EFF members were sworn in after the ANC members pulled a no-show.
Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana says “It’s all systems go,” despite half of his mayoral committee not pitching to the swearing-in ceremony. He says an official ceremony will be convened once the ANC MMCs are ready.”
“We need to start working as soon as possible therefore we can not wait any longer hence we have sworn in available members”, added Ngodwana.
Insiders told journalists that the ANC rejected the new mayoral committee, allegedly because it was not appointed to lead strategic portfolios.
Ngodwana assured that the ANC members will be sworn in as they eventually avail themselves.
