On the 20th of March a fitness instructor Ntokozo Mwelase hosted an aerobics fitness challenge at Khululeka Street, in Windmill Park extension 9, the event started at 7:30 and everyone was prepared, excited and energetic.
Fitness candidates coming as far as North West, Mpumalanga and Pretoria joined the fitness session.Ntokozo fell in love with aerobics in 2017 when he was only 31-years-old, he started hosting his own sessions last year in March, but he had to put everything on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic, luckily he resumed in the same year (in October) when the president announced that the country is moving to the level 3 lockdown regulations. The man behind the initiative commented by saying “I specialise with aerobics and within my sessions I have three segments which are: low, high and advanced impact exercises, but today we are focusing on low and high impact exercises for the community to stay fit and healthy, however we even host workshops so that people can learn more about living healthy lifestyles. Our event is so interesting we even have members who come from North West, Mpumalanga and Pretoria.
“We have also invited people from all around Ekurhuleni to come and join us, our events are not only for people who want to lose weight, but are for all people who want to become healthy and fit. It’s not complicated to keep yourself healthy, it’s not expensive it is something that everyone can do, you need to decide and give yourself time.”
Everyone is allowed to join them, but they don’t allow people who are under the age of 14, Ntokozo is planning to host a tour soon that will be called wellness and fitness tour, he will go all around Ekurhuleni. On the 24th of September (Heritage day) he will host an annual event in celebration of the heritage day, in that event he will also celebrate black excellence and on the 16th of June he will be hosting the Ekurhuleni fitness festival comprising of informative information about nutrition, weight lifting and other impactful forms of exercising along with good entertainment.
One of the members, Vusi Dlozi, told Ekurhuleni News that, “A healthy body needs a healthy mind, we are facing Gender Based Violence (GBV), so such events help us as man to take out our anger and frustrations, Ntokozo is younger than me but I won’t lie he does wonderful things and he treats us equally.”
Permanent members of the fitness club attend regular sessions which are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the evening, on weekly basis.
