Operation Shanela arrested more than 300 suspects in Olifantsfontein this week.
A male suspect was arrested by members of Crime Intelligence during the operation Shanela that took place in R562 Olifantsfontein on eve of Wednesday 21 February until the following morning on Thursday 22 February.
The suspect was in possession of 4 unlicensed firearms of which 3 of them had the serial numbers erased, 58 live ammunition, Dagga and dangerous weapons.
Led by Ekurhuleni’s Deputy District Commissioner Brigadier Lebogang Machakela, Operation Shanela arrested 344 suspects for committing various crimes in the area.
SAPS managed to arrest 143 for contact crimes, 20 for contact-related crimes, 20 for property crimes, 44 for crimes depending on Police actions, and 17 for Gender-based violence.
Members of Crime Intelligence arrested a suspect who was in possession of 4 unlicensed firearms, 3 of them with erased serial numbers. The suspect was also found with 58 live ammunition, Dagga and dangerous weapons.
Amongst others, 7 suspects were nabbed for being undocumented, 05 suspects were nabbed for dealing in liquor without a license and more liquor was confiscated, 67 Traffic Fines to the value of R23900,00 were issued to the motorists, Suspect for possession of one live ammunition, a Toyota truck discontinued and 8 notices issued for spaza shops for non-compliance.
“We are here focusing on various crimes, we are checking drugs, condition of cars, re-arresting those who didn’t attend court hearings after getting bail. We are checking the quality of food from Spaza shops as well,” said Machakela.
He continued to inform that Operation Shanela is done every Thursday.
“We need to work with prosecutors as well in making sure that people who do crime remain behind bars,” he said.
The Deputy District Commissioner, Brigadier Lebohang Machakela thanked the law enforcers for putting more efforts when it comes to the fight against crime.
