Thabang Phatedi is the founder of a group known as BH production, he helps upcoming actors explore and grow their passion for the theatrical arts.
Currently, Thabang is working on a project titled Thokoza Bloodshed. Phatedi’s project is derived from the conflict that took place between the two political parties: Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and the African National Congress (ANC), which happened in the 1990s. “I started this project to inspire the people of Thokoza and young people all around to heed on how this conflict affected the community,” Phatedi ascribed.
Thabang states that his inspiration is Motlatse Mafatshe (who embodies a character called Sechaba on ‘Isidingo’). When he was in the eighth grade (2016) Thabang enjoyed watching ‘Isidingo’ and started performing monologues in the comfort of his bedroom. He then took part in a play dubbed Ponego, wherein he played the lead character. It was at that particular time when he realised his wholesome passion for theatre.
The biggest challenge that BH Production has is the lack of equipment, they are currently only possessing two cameras, which is affecting the production of the project. BH Production is peering for a sponsorship that will aid them with equipment as well as other aspects. “A sponsorship would help greatly and improve the time in which we make our films and we will help our artists to get speedy exposure,” Thabang states.
BH Production will submit Thokoza Bloodshed on Mzansi Bioskop and broadcast it on YouTube as well as create a CD for the film. You can get hold of Thabang on his cellphone: 065 300 5915, Instagram @MrK1hustleburg, and on Facebook @Thabang Phatedi.
