SALGA elects new NEC as the conference comes to a close

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) has elected new leadership to take the organisation forward for the next five-year local government term. Cllr Bheki Stofile, Speaker of the Matjhabeng Local Municipality in the Free State was elected the new President of SALGA.

The new President of SALGA will be deputized by its three Deputy Presidents as elected by the conference: Cllr Xola Phakati, Executive Mayor of the Buffalo City Municipality in the Eastern Cape, Cllr Flora Maboa-Boltman, Executive Mayor of Govan Mbeki Local Municipality in Mpumalanga, and Cllr Xanthea Limberg of the City of Cape Town.  

The elections took place at the International Conference Centre, Cape Town, at the conclusion of SALGA’s two-day national conference. Also elected were members of the National Executive Committee of SALGA as follows: 

 · Cllr Nonkosi Pepping (LM) (Eastern Cape) · Cllr Mapaseka Nkoane (Free State) · Cllr Mluleki Nkosi (LM) (Gauteng) · Cllr Lerato Maloka (DM) (Gauteng) · Cllr Minah Bahula (LM) (Limpopo) · Cllr Pule Shayi (DM) (Limpopo) · Cllr Lesetja Dikgale (LM) (Mpumalanga) · Cllr Brenda Mpamba (LM) (Northern Cape) · Cllr George Masegela (DM) (Northern Cape) · Cllr Sebang Motlhabi (LM) (North West) · Cllr Nikiwe Num (DM) (North West) · Cllr Dr Annelie Rabie (LM) (Western Cape). 

The nominations for NEC members were made by SALGA’s provincial conferences that were held over the past two months.
