School introduces extra classes to improve academic marks

The principal of Laban Motlhabi Comprehensive School Mr Orlando Mpakanyane begins with weekend classes as well as afternoon classes.

His main objective in initiating the classes is to improve the pass rate of his school this year. His trying mitigate the 2020 pass rate that plummeted compared to the one in 2019. In total, 104 learners sat for their exams, 37 of them passed with bachelors, 34 with diplomas and 14 of them passed with higher certificates which amount to a total of 85 learners who passed, and a percentage of 81.73% was achieved by the school. In 2019 the school obtained a 90.1% pass rate, the school’s pass rate has decreased, in last year’s results. In 2019 the school had 39 bachelors, 30 diplomas and 13 higher certificates.

The school was affected by the pandemic like any other school in the country. Despite these challenges that they faced, “we conducted weekend extra classes as well as afternoon classes, we also extended learning times during the week, and we also piled them with a lot of work so that they are able to continue with their school work even at home. Remember, that learners do not have learning gadgets at home to efficiently do their school work when they are at home, so we give those learners lots of work so that they are preoccupied at home.

That includes previous questions papers. So this year we are going to reinforce the strategy that we used last year and push as much as possible if we can. Although the pandemic is still with us we cannot predict the future, but we rather focus on extra classes as we have already started with them. We have provided good studying material to the learners, in order for us to achieve our pass rate,” Mpakanyane concluded.
