Service Delivery Blitz Hits Duduza

The Gauteng Department of Social Development has continued its quest to reach out to communities to respond to issues related to service delivery. Last week, Gauteng Social Development MEC Morakane Mosupyoe made a request during the Ntirhisano Outreach Programme that the Department should return to the community of Duduza in Ekurhuleni to raise more awareness of services rendered by the government.

Amongst the Department’s Units that participated in the outreach programme at Bluegum View in Duduza include Substance Abuse Prevention and Rehabilitation, Field and Intake Services, Gender-Based Violence, Probation Services, Community Development and Planning, and Sustainable Livelihood.
Community member, Mme Melita Moloi said the visit by the Department came at the right time as a family member was battling drug addiction.

Mme Moloi stated that she breathed a sigh of relief after speaking to Social Workers on-site and was promised that she will be assisted to get her family member into rehabilitation.

Social Work Supervisor from Nigel Office, Johnson Tau said “Our main drive is to encourage people, especially the youth to be exposed to opportunities provided by our development centres,”.
Speaking of Sustainable Livelihood Programmes, Community Development Practitioner from Ekurhuleni Regional Office, Dion Mabotha said, “We brought different departments to ensure that information reaches the community and that services of government are accessible to everyone.”
Mabotha highlighted various sustainable livelihood programmes including school uniforms, food parcel distribution, welfare to work, war on poverty, support to cooperatives, income-generating and economic opportunities.
