Springs band field foundation which was established in 1997, was created to equip young people with the necessary life skills.
Its other purpose is to grant young talented individuals a chance to sharpen their talents. So far as a band, they have visited several parks in KwaTsaDuze (Kwa-Thema, Tsakane and Duduza) carrying their musical instruments, recruiting young people with potential.The young people who were recruited will be trained to play Drums, trumpets and saxophones and they will also be taught how to dance.
With the recruitment drive they believe that they will find the best recruits for the band in KwaTsaDuze. Ekurhuleni News interviewed a mentor/ social officer of Springs band field foundation, the first question that was posed to her was what are they going to do with the youth after the recruitment process, Busisiwe Mahlangu responded by saying: “Before we were based in Kenneth but now we are going around scouting talents in KwaTsaDuza, today we have started here in Kwa-Thema (Tornado) to take-in and register those we think they are good enough to be part of the team, we teach them basics and absorb those we believe are good enough for our band.
“After recruiting we grant the recruits a chance to perform in funerals and weddings. The field band is participating in the national championships, contesting against other bands from different areas, like Alexandra, Soweto and Cape Town.
“Our aim is to teach life skills that’s why we chose to go to different parks in order to attract the youth.”
