A single mom’s parenting duties are not different from those of a married woman, except that you’re parenting alone.
Abigail Masuku and simangele Nzimande share how they survived and thrived as single parents, especially, during the pandemic.
“Being a parent is tough and being a single parent can be even tougher, but raising your child alone doesn’t mean you can’t be a good parent or that your child won’t grow up to be a wonderful human being,” said Abigail.
“With the pandemic and people including me losing their jobs and struggling to make ends meet, raising kids has been hard but I’ve learnt that I shouldn’t be hard on myself, but give what I can offer to them,” adds Abigail.
This is one of the hardest parts of being a single parent. Good or bad the pandemic has created a mess for everyone with or without children.
On the other hand, Simangele said that her child tested positive twice for Covid-19 and she had no one to look after her since she was always at work. She tried hiring people to look after her, but they ditched her when she disclosed that her child tested positive for Covid-19, because they also feared contracting the virus.
She continued saying that she had to leave her job to look after her daughter who is now getting better and she hopes that in their next visit to the clinic her daughter will get positive results.
They also believe that single mother’s or fathers can make it work.
