On Thursday, 19 May 2022 the 6TH ANCYL Ekurhuleni conference was held at Kopanong conference centre in Benoni.
It was the election of the Regional executive committee that will lead and champion the interests of young people.
It was a fierce experience of contestation after many members have raised their hands to be elected in the leadership positions especially when additionals were about to be elected.
While there seems to be a slow start of the registration process, ahead of the long-awaited ANCYL Ekurhuleni regional congress, it was reported that none- delegate members chanted outside the kopanong hotel in attempt to stop the congress, however, due to strengthened police and security visibility this decreased the public’s fear of crime during the congress, and it lowered the subjective estimates of victimization risks especially against the official’s and candidates that were contesting.
The congress was started by Precious Banda as NYTT. Collen Malatjie also graced his presence as an NYTT member. The evening was later blessed by Nonceba Mhlauli, who is the national convenor and coordinator tasked to take the ANCYL to deliver a short speech to young people of the ANCYL. She reminded the delegates the importance of protecting the organisation.
“We are duty bound to be guards of this organisation,” she addressed the delegates.
