The City has issued a call to all pensioners who own residential properties, urging them to apply or reapply for pensioner rebate benefits by Saturday, 30 September. The current benefits will expire on Friday, 30 June. Pensioners have an excellent opportunity to benefit from the recently approved property rates, as the City has approved a mere 2% increase in property rates. The implementation of these new tariffs will take effect on Saturday, 1 July.
Kgamanyane Maphologela, the spokesperson for the City’s Finance Department says all rebate applications received by Saturday, 30 September will be backdated to Saturday, 1 July.
Maphologela says the City has approved property rebates for different categories of pensioners, which will significantly alleviate financial burdens faced by this vulnerable group.
