An accused schooler who is now a 17-year-old boy has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping three young boys on different occasions and in different places. He was a 15-year old when he committed these crimes.
In the first incident that took place on 2020-03-17, at approximately 16:00 at an open field at Extension 9 Katlehong South, where the accused raped a nine (09) year old boy who was sent by his grandmother to her aunt to borrow cash but never came back in time because he was lured by Mpendulo who eventually raped him.
In the second incident that took place on 2020-04-19, at approximately 16:30 at Extension 20 Katlehong, where the accused again raped a ten (10) year old boy who was sent by his mother to buy a soft drink at a local spaza shop but only to come back crying because of the pains he endured while being raped.
In the third incident that took place on 2020-04-28 at approximately 08:00 in the morning at Extension 20 Vosloorus whereby the accused again for the third time raped an eight (08) year old boy whom he forcefully dragged while he was playing with his peers and sexually assaulted him.
Through thorough investigations and dedication by the Investigating Officer Sgt Renny Matshavha of Katlehong Family Violence, Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) all evidence she presented in court pointed to one person.
As a result, sentencing was tabled down at Gauteng Regional Court sitting at Palmridge on 2022-03-30. It was set as follows:
*Count 1* Rape of a child- ten years imprisonment.
*Count 2* Rape of a child- ten years imprisonment
*Count 3* Rape of a child ten years imprisonment.
Court ordered that count 2&3 run concurrently with the sentence on count 1.
Katlehong Station Commander Brigadier Vesi welcomes the sentencing and hopes it will send a strong message to young people who commit a crime and assume that they will get away with it.
