An event for going back to school took place in Leondale on the 19th of January 2024, organized by the Think Recruitment organization from Mauritius.
The organization pleasantly surprised the kids with donations and arranged various activities like face painting and magic tricks. They also provided food and refreshments. Stationery items were distributed, benefiting 80 children aged six to 17.
Mshoni Ndhambi, representing the City of Ekurhuleni, shared, “The folks from Mauritius wanted to entertain needy children and make donations. So, I identified Ward 40 along with Councillor Tshabalala, including a local creche.”
“My responsibility was to coordinate the children and find a venue, while their part was to bring everything, including all the entertainment for the day,” she added.
Councillor Nabayethu Shabalala expressed gratitude, saying, “As a ward councillor, I want to thank everyone who contributed to helping these 80 children. There are needy children in this community, so opportunities like this are rare.”
The San Salvador ECD center was identified as the one needing the most assistance, with children from various backgrounds. Some parents can’t afford to pay, but through the partnership between the ECD center and the church, they manage to secure sponsors for these children.
Councillor Tshabalala emphasized that a program like this instils hope in children, showing them that no matter their situation, there is always someone out there who cares.
