THOKOZA– On Tuesday 31 May 2022, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Specialised Task Team Officers (STT), arrested two (2) fleeing suspects and suspicious items, were uncovered before the duo, were transported to the Thokoza police station.
The eye hawked EMPD Officers on crime prevention operation, patrolling the stretch of N3 freeway, received a look-out on the two-way radio, about a robbed/hijacked silver Toyota Fortuner Special Utility Vehicle (SUV), reported to be approaching the N3 freeway, from Modderfontein side. Not long, the flying SUV fitting the description was spotted on the N3 expressway with two (2) male occupants, with no intentions, to stop. Officers called for back-up, as they failed on an attempt, to halt the Toyota.
Other Law Enforcers and private security companies responded and the chase ensued, while the SUV driven recklessly and negligently, drove into a few motor vehicles, leaving them behind with huge damages. After a good 20 minutes of chase, the Toyota Fortuner displaying false registration/number plates was cornered with two (2) occupants, who are 29 and 49-years of age, in Thokoza area by the Serema street. The SUV was thoroughly searched and Officers uncovered implements used in stealing vehicles, a high calibre jammer device and few car keys with immobilisers.
The handcuffed pair, is facing charges of failing to stop when instructed by Officers in uniform, possession of vehicle breaking implements, possession of suspected stolen vehicle added is reckless and negligent driving. They are expected to appear, in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court soon
