TWO SUSPECTS INTERCEPTED WITH UNLICENSED FIREARMS AT ETWATWA, DAVEYTON

Daveyton_ On 27 May 2022, the EMPD Tracing Unit members acting on a mufti-discipline approach with other law enforcement agencies, received information from crime intelligence regarding individuals alleged to be in possession of unlicensed firearms around the Etwatwa area.

According to the information received, the individuals are part of the “Zama Zamas” involved in illegal mining. Police proceeded to the area at Mahlinza Street in Etwatwa where they found two inhabitants.

Section 22 of the CPA permitted for the search to be conducted and the following were discovered 1 x silver magnum 357 Smith and Wesson firearm with 3 rounds of ammunition and 1 x Black CZ 75 firearm with 15 9mm rounds of ammunition.

The occupants were interviewed but could not give a satisfactory answer about being in possession of these firearms.

Both male suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, they will appear in court soon.
