Two suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms
EBONY PARK_ On Tuesday 02 November 2022 at around 11:50 in the morning, members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Specialised Task Team in conjunction with South African Police Service (SAPS) Gauteng High Way Patrol and SAPS Gauteng Anti-Corruption Unit, received a tip-off from a reliable source about individuals looking to purchase black market firearms.
Two (2) male suspects driving a white Mercedes Benz sedan, were observed by the law enforcers at a shopping centre in Ebony Park, making the illegal purchase with the informer. Before the suspects could leave with the firearms, the officers approached the vehicle and apprehended the suspects.
The officers recovered three (3) unlicensed 9mm pistol firearms with the serial numbers filed off and twenty-four (24) live ammunition as well as the firearms purchased from the informer, after searching the vehicle and the suspects.
The suspects, aged 46 and 53 years old, were detained at Ivory Park police station, and charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The duo will appear at the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
