The EMPD Winnie Mandela precinct officers nabbed a 38-year-old African man for having an unlicensed gun and bullets at the intersection of DM Marokane and Solomon Mahlangu Drive in Winnie Mandela Section, Tembisa.
While on official duty, EMPD members pulled over a white Golf VII driven by the suspect and asked to search the car.
When the suspect got out of his vehicle, a firearm was spotted and immediately taken from him. They requested a firearm permit, but he couldn’t produce one. After a thorough inspection, it was found that the serial number had been filed off.
Preliminary reports suggest he had four live bullets in his possession.
He was taken to Tembisa North SAPS unharmed and has been charged with the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He is set to appear in court soon.
“The City is making it harder for criminals, with yet another firearm taken off the streets. This shows EMPD’s dedication to securing the City.”
