Women Support Oasis held its second event on the 12th of March 2022 in Katlehong. The organisation is a Christian support group led by six ladies. These powerful ladies are Virginia Makao, Bridgette Nemalumane, Kelebogile Mathe, Zanani Skhosana, Phathutshedzo Magau, and Ndivhudza Nemalumane.
Members of the community showed up in numbers as they fed the word of God. Scripture sharing and prayer sessions were held and testimonies were shared. This group of people believes that “through faith and God, anything is possible”. They plan to have sessions of encouragement for people who face dissimilar challenges, sessions for single parents, divorces, and the elderly who are abused by their grandchildren.
The support group aims to create a holistic environment that encourages, empowers, and supports women of different ages. It was launched on the 5th of February 2022 and has been supporting the community ever since. The organisation does not only focus on women, they also cater to men since they have realised that children, youth, and men go through a lot and need counselling and assistance as well.
These ladies started the support group during the pandemic when they were having prayer sessions on Zoom that was when they saw a gap and how the community is affected by the pandemic. Some people were stuck at home with their abusers, some lost their jobs and they realised that most young people do not have a platform to voice out what they may be going through. Some children get abused in many ways so they took it upon themselves to assist these people.
The women support oasis welcomes any form of donations, sanitary pads, food, old clothes, and funding for them to be able to assist anyone who comes to them for assistance, anyone who wishes to be part of the group and assist in mentoring and empowering the youth is also welcome. The next Support event will be held on May 2022.
