In a world often overshadowed by challenges and disparities, there are shining beacons of hope that remind us of the power of kindness and giving back. Elizabeth Harriesunker, the founder of the Mobile Barber Co., is one such beacon, spreading positivity and transforming lives with every snip of her scissors.
The Birth of Mobile Barber Co.: A Vision of Empowerment
Established in 2019, the Mobile Barber Co. was born out of a deep-rooted desire to uplift the lives of the disadvantaged and marginalized. Elizabeth Harriesunker, the visionary behind this remarkable initiative, understands firsthand the struggles faced by underprivileged communities. Her mission? To prove to each individual that they are valued and cherished members of society.
A Mini Mobile Salon with a Mighty Purpose
The Mobile Barber Co. is not your ordinary barber shop. It’s a mini mobile salon on a mission to make a difference. This unique initiative travels to underprivileged communities, offering free haircuts to those in need. For Elizabeth, it’s about more than just hair; it’s about restoring dignity and spreading happiness.
The Power of a Smile
Elizabeth’s journey of giving back began through various outreach programs, primarily in collaboration with her church. Her experiences fueled her passion for helping less fortunate communities and those unable to provide for themselves. “Providing a little and giving your time can create a massive impact on people’s lives,” she shares. “Making a person smile is incredibly rewarding, as it symbolizes happiness, appreciation, and kindness.”
From Struggles to Success: The Role of McDonald’s SA
The path to success was not without its challenges, but fate had something special in store. Elizabeth had the opportunity to meet with an Operations leader from McDonald’s South Africa and shared her vision for the Mobile Barber Co. By some divine intervention, he fell in love with the idea and offered incredible insights on how to reach communities in Gauteng more effectively. In February 2022, McDonald’s SA came on board as a financial supporter.
A Synergy of Giving: McDonald’s and Mobile Barber Co.
The partnership between McDonald’s SA and the Mobile Barber Co. has proven to be a match made in heaven. It goes beyond haircuts; it’s about boosting confidence, self-worth, and restoring dignity to those who need it most. “Our co-partnership with McDonald’s is evident in how it transforms lives,” Elizabeth says.
Reaching Hearts and Communities: A Touching Impact
The Mobile Barber Co. has touched the lives of many. They provide free haircuts to several institutions, including orphanages, old age homes, disability centers, mental health centers, women’s shelters, skills centers, and schools. McDonald’s ops team plays a crucial role in identifying communities and institutions in need.
A Community United: Together Mzansi “There is no US without U”
The response to the Mobile Barber Co. has been nothing short of overwhelming. Their first vehicle was fully booked within a week of its launch in February 2022. Such was the demand that they introduced a second vehicle to extend their reach. These two vehicles now serve Gauteng and Pretoria, with many institutions conveniently located near McDonald’s restaurants.
Each vehicle has the capacity to serve 70 to 100 people a day, significantly impacting communities that often lack access to such services. The Mobile Barber Co. has not only changed the way people look but has also changed the way they feel about themselves.
In conclusion, the Mobile Barber Co. and McDonald’s SA have created a powerful partnership that’s making a meaningful impact on the lives of the less fortunate. Through the simple act of giving a haircut, they are restoring dignity, spreading joy, and creating a stronger sense of community. Together Mzansi “There is no US without U,” indeed.
