Struu Festival Film exhibits talent

On Friday, 8 April 2022, the Ekurhuleni Arts and Culture forum held its second annual Struu Film Festival that was aimed to develop and solidify the film industry in Ekurhuleni, at Rhoo Hlatshwayo Art Centre in Daveyton.

The eight shortlisted artists received awards for hard work and determination after they had showcased their work immensely in a room filled with guests and sponsors of the event.

The standard of the producers was extremely amazing. The City of Ekurhuleni and the Gauteng Department of Sport, Art, Culture, and Recreation were amazed by the content, standard of these movies, and documentaries that are all from local producers from Ekurhuleni.

“We made it a point that we give our artists a token of appreciation to push them to continue to excel in their work because we want to see this young talent going forward,” said Nsizwa Mahlangu the marking manager of the forum.

He explained that they aim to see the festival growing bigger and they believe that next year it will be bigger than the one they had this year.

“We want to cover the whole of South Africa where we have artists from other provinces and make sure that everyone knows about Struu Festival because it is the first kind of its own. There are other festivals, but ours is unique”.

For the other candidates that didn’t make it, the forum held a workshop for them at AMPD Studios in Newtown Junction where they invited experts and directors who gave out pieces of advice and motivational talks for the artists.

”We thank the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), City of Ekurhuleni, AMPD Studios Newtown Junction, Department of Sports Art Culture and Recreation, Daveyton TV, 51 Production houses that submitted with their Producers, and Community of Newtown and Daveyton,” said Jabu Tabudi Chairperson of Ekurhuleni Art Culture and Recreation Forum.
